Risk and Capital Analyst – Personal Lines Insurance

Barker Munro Insurance Recruitment are delighted to be working with a major Personal Lines Insurer who are expanding their Data Analytics Departments and as such require a Qualified or Part Qualified – Actuarial or Accountant candidate who will be able to focus on quantitative analysis through statistical techniques for financial analysis, capital modelling and quantification of risks.

As mentioned the role is for a candidate with a good knowledge of Maths and Stats where the main aim of the role is to:

Work as part of a team to provide 2nd line of defence oversight and challenge to the business to identify, measure, manage, monitor and report risk.

Support the Head of Risk and Capital to bring regular, comprehensive reports to the Executive on the material risks faced by the business.

Assist the Head of Risk and Capital in formulating and maintaining the company’s risk appetite, tolerances and limits, aligned to the company's strategy and business plan to optimise the risk/return profile of the company and operated to ensure fair outcomes for our customers. 

Support the Head of Risk and Capital in the development of the Internal Model and ORSA process.
Act as a risk management expert within the business with focus mainly on financial risks.

Support the Head of Risk and Capital in development and embedding the risk management culture across the Group, which includes risk appetite, governance, policies & procedures, risk culture and risk management processes.

Participate in the development of and provide challenge to the business strategy.

Support the Head of Risk and Capital in 2nd line of defence risk reviews across 1st line functions.

Working on the ORSA process, Internal Model and the Standard Formula including supporting the Head of Risk and Capital in the design, implementation, testing, maintenance and reporting.

Supporting the business in the usage of the Internal Model enabling the business to demonstrate understanding and why its use is appropriate to our business.

The ideal candidate must have many of the following attributes:

Educated to degree level (with strong mathematical/statistical content) and/or working towards a related professional qualification (e.g. actuarial or qualified accountant).

Risk management experience gained within Financial Services preferably in the General Insurance sector.

Understanding of general insurance having worked in a similar environment.
Knowledge of Solvency II and its implications for risk management including internal model and ORSA.

Demonstrable experience of the accountabilities required within this role.
Familiarity with capital management principles and techniques.
Strong analytical ability and detail focus.

Strong communication skills, including strong report writing skills and presentation abilities.

Self-starter, pro-active and enthusiastic individual with a keen eye for detail who is able to  negotiate with and engage business management to adopt a risk-based approach to business decisions and initiatives; 

Pragmatic approach to implementation of regulatory requirements in a cost-efficient and commercially aware manner.

High level of IT literacy and Microsoft Office packages.
