Senior Capital Analyst (part - nearly qualified)

The role

The Senior Capital Analyst will support the Capital Manager who is responsible for partnering with the relevant parts of the business to address capital management questions and running the Hiscox Integrated Capital Model (HICM) to produce relevant output. The HICM produces regulatory and economic capital numbers for risk carriers, business units and for the group as a whole in addition to providing information to support numerous business decisions.

The Senior Capital Analyst will need to understand the drivers of capital requirements for the relevant parts of the business and be able to explain these on an ongoing basis. The successful candidate will have day-to-day responsibility for producing risk profiles, solvency assessments, the production of internal and regulatory reporting requirements, model parameterisation. This person will be comfortable analysing and investigating model results and model change impacts, while developing stakeholder relationships across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the production of risk profile information to enable the business and governance committees to monitor and manage against risk appetite, and to feed into the production of own risk and solvency assessments.

  • Support the production of information for regulatory submissions to the relevant regulatory authorities.

  • Responsibility for the production of information to add value to business decisions such as reinsurance purchase, asset strategy and capital allocation.

  • Producing other capital projections such as rating agency or regulatory standard formula calculations and multi-year planning and forward-looking capital projections.

  • Provide input into the modelling and parameterisation of the different models in the light of market or regulatory developments, including carrying out analysis or peer review of underwriting risk assumptions.

  • Lead validation and documentation of the HICM.

  • Learn from other members in the wider Group Capital Management department through assisting with their responsibilities during their busy periods.

  • Develop knowledge of the Hiscox business, the HICM and its reporting requirements.

  • Managing and checking the work of less experienced members of the team.

  • Ensuring business users of modelling information receive suitable training and understand risk drivers, diversification effects and any limitations of the model.

  • Promotion of model use by producing model outputs in a timely fashion and ensuring clear and effective communication of results.

  • Recommending process or modelling improvements to support efficient generation of model outputs.

Skills/qualifications/experience required

  • Experience in the non-life insurance industry essential

  • Good understanding of the fundamental concepts of general insurance

  • Experience in using and interpreting results of capital models essential

  • Knowledge of internal model, regulatory standard formula and rating agency requirements

  • Personal competencies include integrity, innovation, results-focused mindset, mental agility and decisiveness

  • Making good progress towards achieving a relevant professional qualification such as Actuarial Exams or CII

  • Very strong analytical ability combined with a pragmatic and logical approach to problem-solving

  • An ability to gather and use data to identify areas of change or improvement that can bring about the greatest benefit to the business
